Charleston Drops First Mid-Week Contest

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston softball dropped its first midweek contest, 11-5, against Akron at Patriots Point Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars are now 4-2 while the Zips are 1-5.

- In the bottom of the second, Hailey Seymour hit her fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot that also scored Sally Trent to tie the game 2-2. Karlee Hughes scored from third after Julia Sitterding grounded out to second to give the Cougars a 3-2 advantage after the second.
- The Zips plated a run in the top of the third before Seymour drove in her third run of the game to retake a 4-3 lead.
- From the fifth to the seventh, Akron scored eight runs, leaving the Cougars trailing 11-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.
- Freshman Cadence Alberty crossed home plate on a fielder's choice to gain another run, leaving the final score 11-5.
- Seymour is just one of 16 Division I players nationwide to have at least four home runs this season.
- Bronwyn Conroy leads the nation in stolen bases with seven.
- Langston enters the weekend leading the team with 11 hits and a .550 average.
