
Charleston Opens Conference Play with Win

MT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball opened Coastal Athletic Association play with a 5-1 victory over Hofstra Friday afternoon at Patriots Point.
Charleston improves to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the CAA with the win while Hofstra slips to 0-7 and 0-1 in league action.
Freshman Carter Harrington earned his first career win, tossing five shutout innings and lowering his ERA to 1.84.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST HOFSTRA:
- Redshirt senior Ethan Plyler gave CofC a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the first.
- Charleston doubled its lead courtesy of a freshman Jake Amman sacrifice fly in the second and groundout in the third.
- Graduate Dylan Johnson made it a 5-0 contest with a solo shot in the fifth, his first long ball of the year.
- After allowing three walks across the first 1.2 innings of the game, Harrington settled down, yielding just two singles and one free pass while punching out five in the final 3.1 frames of his outing.
- Down 5-0 in the ninth, Hofstra kept from being shutout with a two-out knock into right.
OF NOTE:
- With the win, Charleston is 22-12 in the series with Hofstra and 17-3 in games played at Patriots Point.
- Amman extended his on base streak in his first plate appearance of the game to six straight contests.
- Charleston's pitching staff struck out 10 batters for the second consecutive game and third time in 2026.
- Plyler picked up his team-best third multi-RBI contest of the season while Smith and Johnson both collected their third two-hit games of the year.
- Redshirt sophomore Ryan Hench appeared in his seventh ballgame, lowering his ERA to 1.17 with a scoreless sixth.
