Sophomore Alex LaCoste and graduate Reece Holbrook each swiped three bags in the win as CofC improves to 7-7 in the CAA and 15-19 overall. With the loss, the Aggies fall to 9-24 and 3-11 in league play.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA A&T:
- The Aggies plated three runs in the top of the first before LaCoste singled home graduate Dylan Johnson in the home half of the frame.
- Charleston broke the game open with a five-run fifth, highlighted by Holbrook's two-run single to take a 6-3 lead.
- The Cougars swiped six of their bases in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
- Freshman Jace Stancil sat down 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, finishing the outing with seven strikeouts as he picked up his first collegiate victory.
- Johnson tied the team record, stealing second in the seventh.
- Eight different players drew a walk as Charleston had a season-high nine free passes as an offense.
- Redshirt senior Alex Lyon picked up his second save of the campaign, allowing two hits and an unearned run across 4.0 scoreless frames.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves to 16-5 against N.C. A&T and 11-4 at home.
- Head coach Chad Holbrook picked up his 277th career victory leading the Cougars, which passes Monte Lee for the second-most in school history.
- CofC's 10 stolen bases matched the program record, which was previously done against Detroit in 2001 and UNC Asheville in 2000.
- In the last four games against the Aggies, the Cougars have stolen 26 bases.
- The Cougars were hit five times Saturday, the most this season.
- LaCoste collected his first career three-stolen base game Saturday.
- LaCoste has a hit in 19 of the last 20 ballgames as he went 1-for-3 with a walk and hit by pitch.
- Lyon's 4.0 innings of relief mark the fifth time this season going at least four frames and ninth of his career.
- Lyon also picked up his ninth career save.
