
Cougars Face Stony Brook in First Round of CAA Tournament

ELON, N.C. – Charleston softball heads to Elon to play No. 4 Stony Brook in the first round of the CAA Tournament Wednesday, May 6.
In head coach Maggie Mrowka's first season, she led the Cougars to a 26-28 overall record and a 14-10 conference record.
The Cougars won five of eight conference series this year while sweeping Elon and Monmouth.
Halle Cannon leads the team in conference batting average with .355. Cannon hit home runs in wins against Elon and Hampton. She has 22 hits and 12 runs through conference play.
Leela Langston trails Cannon with a .348 conference batting average with 23 hits. Langston has driven in 15 CAA runs and 37 overall this season. This season, the catcher has thrown out 12 would-be base stealers.
In the circle for Charleston, Mackenzie Mathis records a 3.80 ERA on the season while playing in 28 games with a 13-7 record. Mathis has pitched 10 complete games in her sophomore season and struck out 112 batters.
Charleston softball is 1-6 against Stony Brook since first meeting in 2023. The lone win was on the road in 2025 when Charleston defeated the Seawolves 2-1.
Since joining the CAA in 2014, Charleston softball has appeared at the CAA tournament eight times. CofC went to the tournament for four straight years from 2016 to 2019. Most recently, the Cougars played three games in the tournament in 2025. Charleston defeated Hofstra 5-2 in the first round before falling to Elon 4-3. They met the Pride again in the loser's bracket and fell 3-0 to end the season. Charleston is 8-14 in CAA tournament games.
