Richarde McCray (pronounced Richard) is in his second season as video coordinator for the CofC men's basketball program.
Prior to CofC, McCray served as an assistant coach at Shorter University during the 2011-12 season in Rome, Ga. There, he facilitated in the development of perimeter players including NAIA First Team All-American Walter Hill and built a recruiting base in the Southeast region. McCray also assisted with daily practice plans, game day preparation, film breakdown, scouting and monitoring of academic progress.
The Hawks made their first-ever Final Four appearance in the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship, were the No. 1 seed leading into the tournament and won the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) regular season and tournament championship titles. Shorter also went an undefeated 15-0 at home and posted the best record in program history at 34-3 overall.
A former student-athlete, McCray was a four-year letterwinner and starter at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. He led the Eagles to two NAIA national tournament appearances and one Fab Four appearance in 2007. A three-time team captain and three-time All-Conference selection, McCray scored 1,183 career points and is the school's all-time leader in steals (291).
Following his playing career, McCray joined the Southern Poly men's basketball staff in 2008 as an assistant coach. In three seasons with the Hornets, McCray helped guide Southern Poly to a 73-25 record which included an SSAC Tournament championship title, two NAIA national tournament appearances and a NAIA Fab Four berth in 2009-10.
Originally from Marietta, Ga., McCray was a basketball and track and field standout at Wheeler High School. He helped the Wildcats win back-to-back basketball state championship titles in 2002 and 2003 and a track and field state championship title in 2003.
A Dean's List student and 2008 graduate of Faulkner with a bachelor's degree in business management, McCray currently resides in Charleston and is single. He enjoys going to the beach, watching movies, traveling to foreign countries and collecting sneakers (Air Max and Jordans).
