
Cougars Extend Win Streak to 10

The College of Charleston banged out a combined 24 hits en route to its doubleheader win -- 9-1 in Game 1 and 8-6 in Game 2 -- against Furman in Southern Conference softball action before 111 at Pepsi Stadium on Saturday.
The Cougars (24-17, 8-3 SoCon), who extended their win streak to 10, will face Furman in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Jennifer Golden, who was 3-for-4 in Game 1, put the Cougars on the board when she belted her 10th homer of the season in the top of the fourth, before
Amber Shifflett and Brittany Small were 2-for-3 with an RBI apiece. Kristie Shifflett was 2-for-4. Izmena Cabrera went 1-for-3 at the plate and had two RBI.
Terri Mesko, who improved to 12-7 on the season, yielded one run on five hits and struck out five. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.
Lana Mackey (7-10) gave up eight hits and four runs for the loss. Abby Robertson was 3-for-3 to lead the Furman (14-23-1, 4-7 SoCon) offense. Amber Kiser, who scored the Paladins' lone run, was 1-for-3, and Stephanie Cushing was also 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Charleston had an early 3-0 lead in Game 2, before Furman got on board in the bottom of the second on Megan Jaudon's solo home run.
The Cougars added four more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The Paladins answered with five unearned runs on a pair of
Golden's 11th homer of the season gave the Cougars the 8-6 lead in the top of sixth to secure the win in Game 2.
Katie Sansouci, who scattered five hits and yielded six runs, took the win in 4 2/3 innings of work, improving to 7-3 on the season. Furman's Blake Murray (6-12) earned the loss as she gave up eight hits on seven runs in 3 1/3 innings of work.
Cabrera led the Cougar 12-hit attack on 3-for-3 hitting. A. Shifflett, Golden and Shannon Howard were 2-for-4. K. Shifflett, Mesko and Katie Pesature each had a hit.
Kiser led Furman's offense on 3-for-4 hitting.
