Terri Mesko's third career home run over the left field fence in the second inning gave the College of Charleston a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, before Furman's Megan Jaudon scored on a shortstop miscue to knot the game, 1-all in the bottom half the inning.
Jennifer Golden's two-out RBI single up the middle allowed Amber Shifflett to score the go-ahead run in the top of the third, but the lead was short lived when Jaudon' fielder's two-out fielder's choice plated Abby Robertson to tie the game, 2-2, and Lana Mackey hit a three-run shot over the left field fence to give the Paladins the 5-2 lead in the bottom of third.
Mesko plated another run in the fourth via Amber Shifflett's RBI-walk. The Cougars would take the lead for good with four runs in top of the fifth on Mesko's RBI-single to score Golden, followed by Kolby Schooley's RBI-walk to score Shannon Howard. Brittany Small's two-RBI single up the middle scored Mesko and Katie Pesature.
The Paladins (14-24-1, 4-8 SoCon) would score a run in the bottom of the fifth on Mackey's RBI-double.
Mesko, who improved to 13-7, scattered four hits and yielded six runs in seven innings of work. She walked four and struck out four. Vannessa Williams (1-2) took the loss for Furman. She gave two hits and five runs ? four of which were earned.
Mesko was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Golden was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.
Izmena Cabrera, A. Shifflett, Pesature and Small each had a hit.
