Athens, Ga. ? In the final game of the UGA Red and Black Showcase, the College of Charleston softball team fell to host Georgia 4-0 under the lights.
The Cougars (0-6) will host a doubleheader against Campbell at 4:00 p.m. in their home opener Tues., Feb., 12, at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The Lady Bulldogs recorded six hits on the campaign and improved their record to 5-1 on the season.
Charleston tallied four hits on the day. Tiffany Harmon, a junior outfielder, went two-for-three to bring her average to .400 on the season. Kristie Shifflett and Linzi Bereitschaft added the other two hits for the Cougars.
Bereitschaft, a freshman from Fenton, Mo., put out six UGA batters in the stellar defensive effort that saw a total of 21 put-outs by CofC. Sophomore Terri Mesko (0-3) pitched through seven innings striking out five batters and recording four earned runs.
After the home opener, Charleston will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to play in the Cox Communications Classic hosted by Florida. Game one is Fri., Feb. 15, at 1:00 p.m. against Stetson.
