Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- The College of Charleston softball team rallied back in the fifth inning to win the final game of the CofC Invitational over UNC Wilmington 10-6, Sunday evening from Patriots Point.
“The exciting thing for me as a coach is that we showed character and came back,” said CofC Head Coach Shelly Hoerner.
Having gone undefeated in the tournament, the Cougars improved their record to 9-13. With the loss, UNCW falls to 3-6 overall.
After playing three innings without answering the Seahawks' three first-inning runs, CofC got on the board with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. Alex Williams, Christal Kotchman and Tiffany Harmon turned in runs to put the Cougars equal with UNCW. Williams scored on a two-out double to left-center by Harmon, a junior left fielder, that put Kotchman within striking distance on third base. Kristi Woodall reached base on a Seahawk error and Kotchman and Harmon took advantage of the opportunity for the final two runs of the inning.
