
Cougars Take DH Over SoCon Leader UTC

Chattanooga, Tenn. -- The College of Charleston edged Chattanooga, 2-0 in eight innings of game one and went on to win, 3-2 in the game two at Jim Frost Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars move their record to 30-29 overall and 11-6 in the Southern Conference. The Lady Mocs are now 34-17 overall and 12-3 in league competition.
Game one saw a pitcher's duel with eight combined strikeouts and only seven total hits. The game went seven complete innings with no score until the Cougars got on the board in the top of the eighth. Freshman Kristi Woodall and Christal Kotchman scored runs for CofC. Woodall and Shannon Howard both had RBI in the game. The Cougars held a 6-1 hit advantage in the victory over UTC.

In the night cap, CofC scored first with two runs in the sixth inning. The Lady Mocs responded with two of their own to tie the score after six. In the seventh, pinch runner Alex Williams scored a third run off a single up the middle from Katie Nutaitis.
Howard (17-10) pitched a complete game, striking out three batters and allowing only seven hits through 25 at-bats.
The final game of this SoCon series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27.
