
Cougars Take Game One , 4-3; Fall in Game Two 2-1 at Elon

Elon, N.C. -- The College of Charleston took game one 4-3 over Elon, before dropping game two, 2-1, in a Southern Conference doubleheader this afternoon at East Field.

In the third inning, the Woodall scored her second run of the game off a single by sophomore Brittany Small. Elon responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third. After Terri Mesko struck out the first two batters, Jackie Gonzalez sparked a rally that would result in runs scored by herself and Tracey Dahlen.
The Cougars added insurance with runs scored by Katie Nutaitis and Mesko. Like Woodall in the first, Nutaitis was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch. With two outs and runners on first and third, shortstop Christal Kotchman singled to left to drive in Mesko and what would be CofC's final run. Elon scored a third run in the bottom of the sixth off a sacrifice fly by Jaimie Rao. It wouldn't be enough for the win.
Mesko (13-17) pitched a complete game striking out five batters and allowing eight hits on 25 at-bats. Carol Lilley (7-8) pitched four innings striking out two Cougar batters and allowing four hits and one earned run. Melanie Helterbran pitched three innings for the
