LOS ANGELES, CALIF. –The College of Charleston softball team dropped a doubleheader against Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge, 5-4 and 8-0, at Matador Diamond on Saturday afternoon.
CofC (9-6 overall) hit six doubles against Sacramento State despite the loss. Chandler Frisbie paced the Cougars with two doubles and two RBI's while Katie Padilla went 3-6 with an RBI.
The College will be back in action Tuesday, March 3 against Utah at Mt. Sac Community College to round out the West Coast trip.
Game 1: Sacramento State 5, CofC 4
In game one, the Cougars got out to a fast start in the first inning after Mackenzie Maples doubled to right center. After Carly Hansis moved Maples to third base, three consecutive doubles from Sara Garcia, Chandler Frisbie, and Katie Padilla would give CofC an early 3-0 lead.
Samantha Martin (4-1) took a no-hitter into the 4th inning before Sacramento State would plate two runs on two hits to cut the lead 3-2.
In the sixth inning, the Hornets would string together three hits coupled with a Cougar error to plate three runs and take a 5-3 lead.
The College would attempt a comeback in the bottom of the 7th after Hansis led off the inning with a double. Two batters later, Chandler Frisbie hit her second double of the day and would cut the Hornet lead to 5-4 but the rally would be cut short.
Game 2: Cal State Northridge 8, CofC 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, the Cougars struggled from the plate but were only trailing, 1-0, going into the fifth inning.
Katie Padilla's single in the 2nd inning and Mackenzie Maples double in the 4th were the only hits the Cougars could manufacture against the Cal State Northridge.
Zoe Conley pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout for the Matadors, never letting the Cougars break the game open.
CSUN (17-4) busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring seven runs on six hits and one Cougar error to end the game.
