MT. PLEASANT, S.C. –The College of Charleston softball team opened the Holy City Showdown Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth Friday night.
“I loved the energy and confidence we played with even though we didn't score many runs”, explained head coach Linda Kalafatis. “We need to produce in these tight games and I thought from a defensive standpoint we played very well. Bri Davis played a really good game for us on offense and defense and we need more players to produce and make a difference for us.”
Hope Klicker helped earn her fifth victory of the season by dominating the first five innings, striking out six, and not issuing a walk.
The bats were quiet most of the night, but a timely hitting and a Dartmouth error in the fourth inning would help The College to their 10th victory of the season. The Cougars would start the inning off with singles from Carly Hansis (2-3) followed by Sara Garcia.
Katie Padilla would hit into a fielder's choice that caused an error for Dartmouth, plating Sara Garcia to give CofC a 1-0 lead. Brianna Davis doubled to left-center next at bat, scoring Padilla to give the Cougars a 2-0 advantage.
Dartmouth's Katie McEachern homered in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit, 2-1, but Samantha Martin would be to much and would close out the game earning her first save of the season.
