MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team dropped a pair of crucial Colonial Athletic Association games to the Hofstra Pride on Friday evening at Patriots Point. The Cougars (24-28, 7-13 CAA) lost game one 12-2 while being shut out 8-0 in the nightcap.
Freshman Jordin Jones paced the Cougars at the plate going 4-for-6 with multiple hits in both games. Carly Hansis blasted her fifth home run of the season in game one knocking in the only two runs of the day for CofC.
Each starting pitcher had dominant stretches but 13 walks on the day hindered the Cougar defense and gave Hofstra free base runners. Valerie Cassell allowed only one hit in the first four innings of game one and Samantha Martin threw three hitless innings.
Saturday will serve as Senior Day and the Cougars will pay tribute to four very special seniors and a class, which has shaped the success of the Cougar softball program. The series and season finale against Hofstra will begin at 11 a.m. with the Senior Ceremony taking place immediately following the game at Patriots Point.
