Mount Pleasant, S.C. – The College of Charleston turned in its most prolific inning in 14 years, putting up 13 runs in the third to defeat Jacksonville State by a score of 13-1 to wrap up the Charleston Invitational at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (18-11) sent 18 batters to the plate and had eight hits, drew four walks and benefited from three Gamecock errors to score the most runs in an inning since tallying 17 in the first against Savannah State on March 16, 2004.
Sara Garcia had a two-run single and bases loaded walk, and Taylor Belfiore also drove in three runs in the inning with a surprise bunt single and another base knock to center that brought home two more. Taylor DuPree, Kelly Sinclair and Madi Brown added RBI singles, with DuPree extending her hitting streak to 12 games.
Summer Jenkins cruised through the Jacksonville State lineup for the first four innings, allowing only two hits over that span. The Gamecocks spoiled the shutout bid with a run in the fifth but could not escape the eight-run rule. Jenkins (6-5) allowed five hits and did not walk a batter.
The Cougars concluded their 12-game homestand with eight wins and open Colonial Athletic Association play next weekend at Elon.
