Five-Run Fifth Rallies Cougars Past Bucs

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – Dexlie Inman drove in four runs, including three with a fifth-inning triple, and Summer Jenkins went the distance in the circle as the College of Charleston rallied for a 7-4 win over Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (20-13) trailed 4-2 before scoring five times in the fifth to secure their 13th consecutive victory over their crosstown rival. The teams meet again next Tuesday at CSU.
Kelly Sinclair led off the decisive inning with a double, Taylor DuPree followed with a bunt single and two errors and an intentional walk later the Cougars had the bases loaded trailing by only one run. Inman then lined a shot into the gap in right center to drive home all three runs, and Madi Brown followed with an infield hit to cap the five-run uprising.
Jenkins (7-6) surrendered a two-out double in the sixth before retiring the Bucs in order in the seventh for her fourth complete game of the year.
Sinclair, Inman and Brown each had two of the Cougars' 10 hits, and Sinclair and Jordin Jones both scored twice. DuPree's single in the fifth raised her career hit total to 248 to move within three of breaking Amanda Cone's school record and 17 away from setting a new Colonial Athletic Association mark.
Both teams struck early, with CSU taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first including a two-run homer by Sarah Brown and the Cougars answering with two in their half of the inning. Sinclair and Jones had singles with Sinclair scoring on an error and Jones coming across on an RBI base hit by Inman.
The Bucs added to their lead with a run in the top of the fifth, but Jones prevented a bigger inning when she made a running catch of a shallow pop up in right to leave the bases loaded and pave the way for the Cougar rally in the bottom of the frame.
Charleston returns to CAA action when Drexel visits Patriots Point for a Friday doubleheader and a single game on Saturday.
