Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Dexlie Inman picked a perfect time for her first hit of the young season, launching a three-run triple in the fourth inning to power the College of Charleston to a 4-1 victory over Wichita State and a split of its two games on Saturday.
Earlier in the day the Cougars dropped a 13-0 decision to Virginia Tech, a win which clinched the Cougar Classic title for the 4-0 Hokies. Charleston is 3-1 with a Sunday game against Central Michigan at 1:30 rounding out its tournament slate.
Izzy Berouty pitched the final two innings in the win over the Shockers to pick up her eighth career save and break a tie with Sam Martin atop the Cougar record book.
The Cougars were limited to only two hits through their first eight innings of the day before exploding in the fourth against the Shockers. A leadoff walk to Gracyn Thrasher was followed by singles off the bats of Lexee Emanuel and Madi Brown to load the bases with two outs.
Inman brought in all three with her drive to the fence in center and scored on a wild pitch to cap the four-run uprising.
Summer Jenkins (2-0) went the first five innings and scattered six hits and one run with two strikeouts and no walks. Berouty entered after a leadoff hit by pitch in the sixth and allowed only one hit over the final two frames to pick up her record-setting save.
Brown and Sinclair had two hits each against Wichita State, and Thrasher had a pair of singles on the day including Charleston's only hit against Virginia Tech.
