Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team is back in action on Tuesday when former Southern Conference rival Furman visits Patriots Point for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
The Cougars are 4-8 after splitting four games at the Charleston Invitational over the weekend, including a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday that gave Linda Kalafatis her 1,000th career win as a collegiate head coach.
Summer Jenkins tossed a five-hit shutout against the Mountaineers for her second win of the season while lowering her ERA to a team-leading 2.37. Drayton Siegling, who has a 2.63 ERA, allowed only two hits in five scoreless innings in a 4-2 win over North Carolina Central on Sunday.
Payton Wade continues to lead the Cougars at the plate with a .433 average and three home runs. She has driven in seven runs to share the team lead with Lexee Emanuel, Gracyn Thrasher and Brittany Vicary, the latter of whom is batting at a .375 clip.
The Paladins are 1-11 with a 10-2 victory over Ohio to their credit. Natalie Morgan is the team's leading hitter at .313 with three doubles, two homers and seven RBI. Riley Ludlam has also driven in three runs.
Charleston holds a narrow 38-36 lead in a series that includes a stretch from 1999-2013 when the Cougars were a member of the SoCon. The teams last met on March 9, 2018 when Charleston took a 6-4 win at Patriots Point.
Following Tuesday's games, the Cougars will host the Holy City Showdown with two contests against Campbell and Maine and one against Chattanooga from Friday through Sunday.
