ELON, N.C. – College of Charleston got solid pitching but could not get the key hit in a pair of losses in Sunday's CAA twinbill at Elon.
In the opener, Carli McCants allowed only one hit through five innings before three singles and a home run by Megan White in the sixth produced all the runs in a 4-0 Phoenix victory. McKenna Kelly and Payton Lemire combined to give up just three hits in the second game as Elon won, 3-1.
The Cougars had several opportunities in the first game but were unable to break through despite getting runners in scoring position in each of the first six innings. CofC finished with five hits with Aniz Roman and Payton Wade getting singles to start the first and sixth innings, respectively.
In the second game, a wild pitch and bases loaded walk gave the Phoenix a 2-0 lead in the third. The Cougars finally got on the board in the sixth on a pair of errors. Lemire went the final 3 1/3 innings in relief and gave up only two hits and one unearned run while striking out four.
CofC wraps up its season next weekend with three games against James Madison at Patriots Point.
