CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston travels to Columbia on Thursday to face South Carolina for the first time in five years.
The teams have not played since South Carolina won twice during the 2017 season. The Gamecocks hold a 12-1 lead in the series, with the Cougars' win coming during the 2009 campaign.
Charleston enters the game ranked second in the CAA in team ERA at 2.60, with three pitchers holding spots in the top 10. Carli McCants is third (1.88) followed by McKenna Kelly (sixth, 2.37) and Payton Lemire (eighth, 2.46).
Jenna Carter paces the Cougars at the plate with a .341 average, while Jenna Helberg is at .317 with two homers and a team-leading 10 RBI.
South Carolina is 16-8 with seven Gamecocks batting over .300, led by Riley Blampied at .403. Katie Prebble is tied for seventh in the nation with 10 home runs and leads the team with 26 RBI.
Bailey Betenbaugh is 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA in the circle. Kelsey Oh, sister of Cougar freshman Kayla Oh, has a team-best five wins.
Following Thursday's contest, the Cougars return home for three games against East Carolina beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.
