NASHVILLE, TENN. – College of Charleston lost by one run for the fourth time in five games over the weekend, dropping a 1-0 decision to Dayton in the final game of the Purple & Gold Challenge.
Drayton Siegling and Lauren Sandor combined to allow only four hits, but the Cougars were unable to dent the scoreboard despite putting the leadoff batter on base four times, including Mia Dittoe with a single in the seventh.
Dittoe also doubled in the second, and Jenna Carter joined her with a pair of base hits. Siegling gave up three hits and the Flyer run in four innings, while Sandor working two innings of one-hit ball in her season debut.
Sarah Bailitz and Kelsey Gumm combined on the five-hit shutout for Dayton.
The Cougars return to Patriots Point on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Winthrop.
