CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston continues its lengthy road swing this weekend with a Colonial Athletic Association series against Hofstra at Bill Edwards Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y.
The three-game set includes a doubleheader on Saturday and a single contest on Sunday, both starting at noon. The series is part of a stretch of 12 straight games for the Cougars away from Patriots Point.
Charleston is 1-2 in CAA play after taking the final game of last weekend's series against Drexel. The Cougars are led at the plate by Jenna Carter, who is seventh in the league with a .373 batting average and second in on-base percentage at .507.
Jenna Helberg is batting .329 with a team-high 15 RBI. Her third home run of the season provided the winning margin in last Sunday's 7-2 win over the Dragons. Helberg is second in the CAA with nine doubles, and Payton Wade is tied for fourth with seven.
Payton Lemire (2.57) and Carli McCants (2.60) are seventh and eighth, respectively, in the league in ERA, and McCants is eighth with 49 strikeouts.
Hofstra took two of three from Elon last weekend to open CAA play. Haley Venturini was named the Co-Pitcher of the Week after earning wins over the Phoenix and Howard and ranks eighth in the CAA in wins (5), fifth in strikeouts (60) and 10th in ERA (2.61).
Chelsea Manto has been the top hitter for the Pride, leading the conference with 36 hits and ranking sixth in batting average (.375) and third in stolen bases (10). Angelina Ioppolo paces the team with 11 RBI.
Hofstra owns a 14-7 lead in the series including 5-3 at home. The Pride took two of three at Patriots Point in 2019 in the last meeting.
