Charleston Splits Doubleheader with Canisius

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team picked up their second win of the season in a split with Canisius Tuesday afternoon.
Charleston dropped the first game 2-1 despite loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Griffs' defense made back-to-back spectacular defensive plays to prevent the tying run.
Brooke Tranum launched her second career homer in the fourth frame to account for the Cougars' lone run.
Payton Lemire pitched a complete game, recording a season high six strikeouts.
Despite the Griffs starting the second game with three runs in the first, the Cougars stormed back to a 6-4 win.
Drayton Siegling picked up her first win of the season, fanning three and only allowing one run across 4.2 innings of work.
The Cougars rallied in the third inning when Malaka Belser sent one through the gap, and an error by the centerfielder allowed two runs to score. Charleston then took the lead with a Mary-Kathryn Scott single to left field which drove in two more runs.
Canisius was able to tie it up in the top of the fourth, but Belser singled again to allow the Cougars to retake the lead. Ella Campbell capped off the win with her first career home run in the fifth inning.

The Cougars host the Low Country Classic at Patriots Point this weekend. Charleston is set to face Rutgers first at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
