Halle Cannon hit a walk-off two-run homer to give the College of Charleston softball team their first win of the season.
The Cougars lost to East Carolina 8-4 before defeating Cleveland State 11-3 in six innings on day two of the Charleston Invitational.
Malaka Belser hit a two-RBI single in the first inning in response to the Pirates' three-run opening inning.Â
Aniz Roman hit an RBI double in the sixth and
Kaytlin Stacey recorded an RBI single in her first collegiate appearance, but the late rally fell short against East Carolina.
Payton Lemire only allowed one earned run from Cleveland State in her first win of the season, striking out three in the process.
Cannon had a career night, going 3-3 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs.
Charleston rallied in the third inning againt the Vikings starting with a bases loaded walk by
Malaka Belser to contribute the first run.
Shealyn Starks then singled up the middle to drive home two runs and take the lead at 3-2. Cannon and
Savannah Lockhart followed with back-to-back singles that contributed three more runs.
Brooke Marquez singled up the middle in the fifth inning to record her first RBI in a Cougar uniform. Starks then singled in the bottom of the sixth to set up Cannon's game-winning home run.
CofC will finish the Charleston Invitational against St. Joseph's Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
