CofC Travels to Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – College of Charleston volleyball travels to Boston to face Northeastern Oct. 18-19. The matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. and noon from the Cabot Center with both contests airing live on FloCollege.
 
OPENING SERVE:
  • Charleston split the weekend series with North Carolina A&T, sweeping the first match before falling in five sets on Saturday.
  • Freshman Jumana Martin tallied 24 digs in the three-set match and a career-best 32 digs in Saturday's five setter, averaging 7.00 digs over the weekend.
  • Martin was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, her second straight week earning a conference award.
  • Martin became just the fifth Cougar since 2001 to have at least 32 digs in a match.
  • Martin's 352 digs this season is good for 10th in the country while her 4.82 digs per set ranks 20th.
  • Martin is one of two players in the country with at least 350 digs, 75 assists and 20 service aces joining Coppin State's Coco Figueroa. Martin is also the only freshman nationally with at least 350 digs and 75 assists.
  • Freshman Makena Parthen eclipsed the 50-block threshold Saturday with three stops.
  • Parthen and Caroline Noonan are the first pair of CofC true freshmen to have 50 blocks in a season since Sarah Havel and Elyse Chubb in 2008.
  • Junior Lauren Dow is one of five players in the country with at least 620 assists and 190 digs this season, posting a CAA-best 620 helpers and digging out 197 balls.
 
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
  • Northeastern enters the weekend with a 7-8 overall record and 3-3 mark in the CAA in Brendan McGourn's first season as head coach.
  • Emma Rowell leads the offense with 159 kills and 2.61 kills per set while Nadia Koanui and Beatrice Gennari pace the defensive attack with 256 digs and 62.0 blocks, respectively.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Charleston is 15-8 in the all-time series with Northeastern and have won five of the last six contests. Last season, the Cougars swept the weekend at home en route to securing the 2024 CAA Regular Season Championship and No. 1 seed in the CAA Volleyball Championship. CofC is 6-5 when playing Northeastern in true road matches.
