STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Mackenzie Mathis struck out a season-high 10 to lead College of Charleston to a 2-1 victory over Stony Brook in the opening game of a CAA series.
The win was the sixth in seven conference games for the Cougars, who will look for their third straight series victory over the weekend.Â

- Mathis had at least one strikeout in five innings including three in the first and two in the third, fifth and seventh.
- She eclipsed her previous season best of seven while limiting the Seawolves to four hits.
- Mathis was three outs away from her second straight CAA shutout before allowing a solo homer to lead off the seventh.
- Mathis lowered her ERA in conference games to 1.56 with 23 strikeouts in 27 innings.
- Sierra Paradis drove in both Charleston runs with a solo homer in the first and RBI single in the sixth.
