MT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball earned the series win after beating Elon, 11-6, Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

The Cougars picked up their 14th victory of the year in 22 games and improve to 2-1 in the CAA.

Redshirt junior Alex Lyon improved to 4-1 while throwing a season-high 4.0 innings out of the bullpen. Senior Davis Aiken fanned a pair of Phoenix in the ninth to help secure the victory.

Offensively, redshirt junior Ethan Plyler launched his third home run of the season in the home half of the second, the start of eight straight runs for the Cougars.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST ELON:

After surrendering four runs in the top of the first, redshirt junior Daniel Brooks settled in and closed out his four-inning start without allowing a run over the final 3.2 frames.
Freshman Landon Penfield's two-run single and Plyler's RBI double leveled the game at four in the third inning.
Charleston doubled its score in the next frame, before adding three more insurances runs later in the contest.
Plyler and junior Payton Frehner both tallied three hits in the ballgame.
Freshman Matthew Dominianni scored the would-be game winning run on graduate Avery Neaves' double in the fourth.
Neaves finished the game with a pair of RBI and three runs scored.

OF NOTE:

Charleston is 46-33 all-time and 22-17 against Elon at home.
CofC has won five of the last six games over the Phoenix.
The Cougars have collected 10-plus hits in seven of the last eight ballgames including the last six.
CofC also plated at least 11 runs in all three contests versus the Phoenix.
Lyon's four innings of relief on Sunday ties his career-high, which was previously done twice.
Neaves extended his reached base streak to 15 games.
Plyler finished the weekend 7-for-13 with 2 runs, 4 doubles, a home run, 6 RBI and a 1.677 OPS.
Charleston drew six free passes Sunday, the 15th time drawing five-plus walks this season.
The Cougars earned their 110th win under head coach Chad Holbrook when the margin of victory is five runs-or-greater.
