SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston concluded a six-game road swing with an 8-1 loss at USC Upstate on Tuesday.

The Cougars open their CAA schedule with a three-game series against Hampton at Patriots Point beginning Friday at 5 p.m. The teams also meet Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

Game Summary
- The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jay Wrightsman singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Sierra Paradis.
- The Spartans led 3-1 and had two runners in scoring position with nobody out in the third when Lily Thorpe escaped the jam with three ground outs.
- The first two Upstate batters reached in the fourth, but again Thorpe was up to the challenge to keep it a two-run game.
- Julia Sitterding and Karlee Hughes also had hits for Charleston with Sitterding stealing a base.
- The game was just the second meeting between the teams and first since 2009.
