
Charleston Softball Hosts Akron for First Mid-Week

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston hosts Akron Wednesday, February 11 at Patriots Point for the first mid-week game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
Charleston is 4-1 after hosting the Charleston Invitational for opening weekend. The Zips are 0-5 following the first weekend of play.
Over the weekend, Leela Langston hit three consecutive walk-offs to lead the Cougars to a 4-1 start on the 2026 season. Her efforts earned her CAA Player of the Week. The sophomore put up a .529 batting average over the first five games and had four runs with nine hits. Langston had 5 RBI across the Charleston Invitational.
Freshman Bronwyn Conroy hit a .474 batting average with 3 RBI to earn CAA Rookie of the Week. Conroy also had nine hits and started in all five games in her collegiate debut.
Hailey Seymour had not one, but three home runs over the weekend including her first over Coach Mrowka's alma mater, George Mason. Sally Trent hit her first career home run against St. Johns to lead Charleston to a 6-5 victory over the Red Storm.
12 different Cougars crossed home plate to combine for Charleston's 26 total runs. Eight of those Cougars scored multiple runs, with Conroy leading the team with five.
Mackenzie Mathis pitched 14.2 innings, the most of any Cougar and struck out 13 batters. Ryley Kutter had five strikeouts while Campbell Schaen had eight. Charleston pitching combined for 26 strikeouts.
Charleston's record against the Zips is 5-4 and 3-4 at home. Most recently, Charleston defeated Akron 5-4 in 2018. Charleston has not fallen to Akron since 2011.
