
CofC Faces JMU and Illinois in Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball travels to the Upstate to play James Madison and Illinois Feb. 27 and 28. First pitches from Fluor Field are set for 6 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively. The games will not be broadcast.

FIRST PITCH:
- Charleston lost to East Carolina, 8-7, Wednesday evening in Fayetteville, N.C.
- Freshmen Nick Diaz and Jake Amman each collected three hits in the loss.
- Amman hit a game-tying grand slam in the top of the eighth as CofC climbed back from a 7-1 deficit.
- Sophomore Landon Penfield launched his first long ball of the year the inning prior.
- All three home runs hit in 2026 have come in the seventh inning and on. In 2025, Charleston hit just eight homers across the final three frames and did not have a homer in the ninth.
- CofC's pitching staff allowed just one walk Tuesday and enter the weekend atop the CAA and ranked 39th nationally with 3.36 walks allowed per nine. CofC finished the 2025 season 11th in the country with 3.32 free passes allowed per nine.
SERIES HISTORY:
- CofC holds a 24-10 record against James Madison, last playing the Dukes in 2022. The Cougars are victorious in six of the last seven meetings. Friday marks the first neutral site matchup between the teams.
- Charleston faces Illinois for the first time in school history, which also marks the first time the Cougars place multiple Big Ten schools in the same year. CofC hosted Rutgers to begin the 2026 campaign.

- Charleston returns to Patriots Point to begin the month of March with a midweek contest against Presbyterian on the third. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., with the game airing live on FloCollege.
