
Softball Hosts Monmouth to Open CAA Play

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston softball hosts Monmouth for a three-game series to open CAA play Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8.
First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m. at Patriots Point. Saturday's game is set for 3 p.m. while Sunday's is set for 12 p.m.
The Cougars are 8-13 following two mid-week road losses against Wofford and Clemson.
Against the Terriers, sophomore Sally Trent hit her second career home run to put the Cougars on the board. In the circle Tuesday, Campbell Schaen struck out two in two innings pitched.
At Clemson, junior pitcher Ryley Kutter struck out three in three innings. Jules Raymond allowed only two hits from the Tigers during her time in the circle. Four Cougars found a hit at McWhorter Stadium including Leela Langston who now has 26 on the season.
Nationally, Charleston ranks seventh among all Division I programs and first in the conference in total stolen bases with 49. True freshman Bronwyn Conroy accounts for 18 of Charleston's stolen bases and leads the conference and is ranked second nationally in the category.
Mackenzie Mathis ranks second in the CAA in strikeouts with 43. The pitcher had a season high seven strikeouts against Marist in Charleston's season opener.
In 2026, Monmouth is 6-8, most recently defeating Colgate 4-3 on March 1.
Charleston has played Monmouth six times before while hosting the Hawks for three games. The last time out, the Cougars traveled to the Hawks in 2024 and fell 4-3. Charleston's overall record against Monmouth is 3-4 and their record at Patriots is 3-1.

Saturday afternoon's game will feature a First Responders Appreciation promotion where fans can celebrate local first responders as they take the mound to throw a ceremonial first pitch. Fans will also be able to "touch a truck" with the opportunity to get up close and personal with local law enforcement vehicles.
