MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Austy Miller earned the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to secure Charleston's 2-1 victory over Monmouth at Patriots Point in the conference opener.
Charleston is now 9-13 on the season and 1-0 in CAA play.
Sally Trent had the winning hit to send Miller home for the final run of the evening.

- In the circle, Mackenzie Mathis held Monmouth scoreless for six innings after giving up one run in the first.
- Mathis retired six straight Hawks in the fourth and fifth innings.
- Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Halle Cannon hit a double to right center field to put herself in scoring position. Julia Sitterding then singled on a 1-2 count while allowing Halle Cannon to run home from second to tie the game.
- Opening the bottom of the sixth on the first pitch, Miller doubled to left field. Trent singled for 1 RBI and Miller scored the winning run from third base.
- Mathis pitched her third complete game of the season and had five strikeouts against Monmouth.
- Six Cougars had hits against Monmouth.
- Miller is on an eight-game hitting streak including three hits in the Cougars' win against Georgia State.
- Charleston will be back at the Point Saturday, March 7 hosting Monmouth for the second of a three-game series with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
- Saturday's game will feature a First Responders Appreciation promotion where fans can cheer on local first responders as they throw a ceremonial first pitch.
