
Cougars Top Tribe in Slugfest

With the win, Charleston improves to 18-19 overall and 9-7 in the CAA. The Tribe are now 14-21 and 6-10 in league play.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
- After a scoreless first inning, the runs came a plenty the next three frames.
- Following a grand slam by the Tribe in the second, CofC responded with a seven-run third.
- Freshman Jake Amman singled home graduate Will Tippett before scoring on graduate Dylan Johnson's two-run double.
- Later in the frame, Frehner launched the second grand slam of the game, helping push the Cougars to a 7-4 advantage.
- William & Mary didn't go away, plating five of their own in the bottom of the third to take a brief 9-7 lead.
- In the fourth, Frehner drove in two more runs to give him six RBI on the night in Charleston's five-run frame.
- Holding a 12-9 lead into the seventh, graduate Reece Holbrook led off the top of the inning with his first career homer.
- Charleston's offensive rout continued, when redshirt senior Ethan Plyler singled in Johnson before scoring on sophomore Landon Penfield's two-run double.
- Redshirt senior Alex Lyon earned his third victory of the season, tossing 3.1 innings of relief.
- Sophomore Ryan Hench punched out four Tribe batters across two scoreless before freshman Kaden Myers threw a perfect ninth, striking out a pair.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves to 33-13 versus William & Mary and 11-8 on the road.
- CofC has now won four straight games against the Tribe and have outscored them 44-15 in that span.
- Charleston's 16 runs Friday are the most in a ballgame in the all-time series versus W&M.
- The Cougars set season highs in runs scored, hits and RBI.
- The 16 runs were the most in a game since Charleston plated 18 March 1, 2025, versus Creighton.
- Frehner launched Charleston's third grand slam of the season in the second inning.
- CofC has scored seven runs in an innings in two of the last three ballgames.
- The Cougars have hit three-or-more grand slams in the same season 11 times.
- Seven Charleston hitters had multi-hit performances in the win.
- Lyon appeared in his 93rd career game, taking sole possession of second in school history. Lyon has gone at least two innings in 50 of those contests.
- With the win, Lyon tied Carter Love for the most relief wins in program history with 19.
