
Cougars and Blue Hens Meet with Playoff Hopes on the Line

Charleston, S.C. – Two teams that are fighting to stay alive in the CAA playoff race will face off this weekend when the College of Charleston and Delaware play a doubleheader on Saturday and single game on Sunday at Patriots Point. Both days begin at noon.
The Cougars and Blue Hens are tied for seventh with 5-10 conference records, one game behind the trio of Towson, UNCW and Hofstra. The top five teams at the end of the regular season next Saturday will qualify for the CAA Tournament on May 8-10 in Harrisonburg, Va.
Live stats for all three games and video for Sunday's contest will be available with links on the Charleston softball schedule page. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under, and weekend passes can be purchased for $12 for adults and $5 for youth. Saturday will be a Bark at the Park Day and Kids Day.
The Cougars (21-26 overall) have a 12-5 lead in the all-time series and have won two of three in all five series since Charleston joined the CAA in 2014.
The Cougars have three players batting over .300 led by Madi Brown at .315. Brown has 12 doubles, one behind team-leader Dexlie Inman, and is tied with Brittany Vicary for second in RBI with 19, two shy of Lexee Emanuel's mark. Yari Felix (.308, 9-9 SB), Emanuel (.304) and Gracyn Thrasher (.399, 3 HR) are also among the team batting leaders.
Drayton Siegling paces the pitching staff with seven wins, a 2.69 ERA and three saves.
Anna Steinmatz (.336, 7 HR, 24 RBI) leads the Blue Hens (19-25 overall) at the plate, and Brittney Mendoza and Brooke Gianden both have six homers and a combined 54 RBI. Delaware has swiped 81 bases led by Hanna Garber with 24 and Halle Kisamore with 16.
Sarah Piening leads the CAA with 33 pitching appearances and 26 starts and ranks second in innings (138.1) and fourth in strikeouts (87). She has 11 wins with three shutouts.
