Cougars Host UNCW in Weekend CAA Series

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston continues its 12-game homestand this weekend with a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against UNCW at Patriots Point.
The Cougars and Seahawks play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at noon. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for youths. All three games will be streamed on Flosports and live stats will be available on cofcstats.com.
Freshman Aniz Roman will be looking to continue her solid hitting after being named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Roman went 11-for-17 with six runs scored during a five-game stretch against South Carolina State and Elon. She is batting .324 and is tied with Payton Wade and Noel Dominguez for the team lead with five doubles.
Jenna Helberg has hit safely in 10 of 12 games since coming back from an injury and is leading the team with a .373 average. Shealyn Starks has a hit in 13 of the past 16 contests, including three games with three hits, and has moved into a tie for the lead with Wade with 14 RBI.
UNCW lost three games to James Madison by a total of only six runs last weekend and is 4-5 in the CAA. The Seahawks swept a series from the Cougars in Wilmington three weeks ago to cut CofC's lead in the all-time series to 29-24.
Tayler Vitola (.383), Jada Santiago (.382) and Janel Gamache (.370) are all in the Top 20 in the league in batting. Vitola is tied for third in stolen bases with 11 and Santiago is fifth in RBI with 23, three spots ahead of Gamache with 20. Rylee Pate is eighth in the conference with a 3.13 ERA.
