CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston resumes Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va., with a three-game series against perennial conference power James Madison.
The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
Saturday's games will be streamed on Flosports and Sunday's game will be on JMU Sports View. Live stats for all three games will be available. Check the CofC schedule page for links.
The Cougars are coming off a doubleheader split at Charleston Southern, winning the first game behind home runs by Shealyn Starks and Payton Wade and the complete game performance in the circle by Katie Freeman.
Starks had a season-high three hits, including her first career home run, and Wade added another round tripper in the nightcap to give her team-leading totals of five homers and 12 RBI. Freeman pitched a five-hitter and did not walk a batter in the 6-2 victory.
The Dukes are 11-1 and received votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll this week. JMU opened its CAA slate last weekend by taking two of three at Elon, with a 5-4 loss ending its season-opening 10-game winning streak.
Freshman Alissa Humphrey has won all six of her decisions and has an ERA of 1.03 and 68 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Graduate senior Kate Gordon, a member of the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year preseason watchlist, is batting .378 and paces the Dukes with four homers and 13 RBI.
