Cougars Drop Two to North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The College of Charleston softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader with CAA newcomer North Carolina A&T Friday afternoon.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Cougars exploded for five runs in the fourth. Shealyn Starks led the charge with a two-out, two-RBI single to take a 3-0 lead. Malaka Belser then walked with the bases loaded followed by an illegal pitch that allowed Starks to score.
Starks drove in her third run of the game in the sixth inning to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead, but the Aggies responded with an eight-run inning in the bottom of the frame to clinch the win.
Payton Lemire stepped into the circle for game two and finished with a season-high eight strikeouts.
Sierra Paradis doubled for the second straight game to drive in the Cougars' first run in the fourth. A fielding error by the Aggies allowed Audri Bates to score the next inning and give CofC a 2-0 lead.
NC A&T responded again with their first run in the fifth and the tying run in the seventh to send it to extra innings. The Aggies quickly put two runners on in the eighth and drove in the game-winning run.
Up Next
The final game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m. but may be moved to Sunday due to expected inclement weather.
