Late Cougar Rally Falls Short at Coastal

CONWAY, S.C. - The College of Charleston dropped their final non-conference game of the season to Coastal Carolina by a score of 5-3 Tuesday afternoon.
The Chanticleers struck first in the opening inning, but the Cougars quickly responded in the second when Aniz Roman singled up the middle to drive home Kelli Anne Carter from second.
Coastal loaded the bases in the second inning, but Payton Lemire fanned three batters to eliminate the threat. Lemire finished the day with five strikeouts and only two hits allowed.
The Chanticleers added two more runs each in the third and fifth frames to take a 5-1 lead.
Karlee Hughes tripled to lead off the top of the seventh, and Malaka Belser followed up with her second home run of the season to make it 5-3. The Chanticleer pitcher then went on to strike out the final three Cougar batters and secure the win for CCU.
Up Next
The Cougars will travel to Elon this weekend for the final road series of the season. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
