CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston hosts Elon in a CAA series beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. at Patriots Point. The series begins a day earlier due to the Easter holiday Sunday.
The Cougars and Phoenix continue the set with Friday and Saturday games at 1 p.m. Admission for all three days is free. Thursday is Student Glow Night, including a glow stick giveaway, and seat cushions will be given to the first 50 fans attending the game Saturday.
The Cougars are in need of a series win to climb back into contention for a postseason berth. Charleston is 2-7 in conference play and in 11th place with the top six qualifying for the CAA tournament.
The Phoenix are two games ahead of the Cougars with a 4-5 league record. Elon swept its opening series against NC A&T before dropping five of six to UNCW and Campbell.
Both teams have 34 wins in the series with most of those games coming when the Cougars and Phoenix were together in the Southern Conference and CAA. The teams split a doubleheader last year in Elon with Malaka Belser hitting a home run and driving in five in a 9-1 win in game two.
Following the set against Elon, the Cougars embark on a lengthy stretch away from Patriots Point, including CAA series at UNCW and Campbell. Charleston is not home again until April 19-21.
