Two-Out Lightning Propels Cougars to Series Win

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston scored six runs with two outs in the second and never looked back in a 9-1 six-inning victory over Towson on Saturday to clinch the CAA series win.

The Cougars (20-22, 11-6 CAA) have won four conference series for the first time since 2017 and reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2019. Charleston is 10-1 in CAA games at Patriots Point and have won seven straight, allowing only five runs over that span.

Game Summary
  • The Cougars trailed 1-0 and had nobody on with two outs in the second before taking control of the game.
  • Halle Cannon and Jay Wrightsman had RBI singles to put Charleston in front, and Austy Miller and Leela Langston added two-run hits to make it 6-1.
  • Cannon continued the two-out magic in the third with a solo home run to center, and Langston drove in her third run with a sac fly in the fourth.
  • Needing one run in the sixth to end the game, Kennedy Rhue singled in Wrightsman to walk it off.
  • Miller and Rhue both had three of Charleston's 12 hits, and Wrightsman and Cannon had two apiece.
  • Mackenzie Mathis was the beneficiary of the offensive attack, allowing three hits and fanning five in a complete game.
  • Mathis, who retired 11 in a row at one point, lowered her overall ERA to 2.97 and is third in the CAA with a 1.52 conference ERA.
