Charleston Bests Youngstown State in Four Sets

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston opened the Steve Baumrind Invitational with a four-set win (25-17, 21-25, 25-12, 25-23) against Youngstown State Friday evening in TD Arena.
 
The Cougars sit even at 4-4 on the season while the Penguins slip to 4-3.
 
Graduate student Izzy Marinelli had a season-high 15 kills for the Cougars while freshman Caroline Noonan added 14 kills and six blocks in the victory.
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST YOUNGSTOWN STATE:
  • Junior Lauren Dow tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 12 digs.
  • Dow was one of four Cougars with 10-plus digs, led by freshman Jumana Martin's 18.
  • Charleston used an 11-0 run in the third set to power its way to a 25-12 victory.
  • CofC capped off the win with 19 kills and a .313 hitting percentage in the final set.
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston evens the all-time series with Youngstown State at 1-1 following Friday's win.
  • CofC has had at least seven service aces in five of its eight matches this season.
  • Martin has recorded an ace in each of her first eight collegiate matches.
  • Dow surpassed 2,400 career assists Friday and now sits at 2,428.
  • Four of Noonan's six blocks were solo. The middle blocker has multiple blocks in seven contests in 2025.
  • Marinelli's final kill of the evening was the 600th of her college career.

Charleston faces Quinnipiac on Saturday in the second day of the Steve Baumrind Invitational. Opening serve from TD Arena is set for 6 p.m.
