Softball Falls to Georgia Tech and Purdue

ATLANTA, GA. – Charleston softball fell to Purdue 5-2 and Georgia Tech 13-5 on the second day of the I-75 Tournament hosted by Georgia Tech.
Charleston is now 7-7 on the season and 0-3 in the tournament.

- Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, Charleston centerfielder Audri Bates hit a home run on an 0-2 count to cut the Boilermaker's lead in half.
- In the top of the fourth, Austy Miller singled home Karlee Hughes to tie the game at two.
- Mackenzie Mathis held Purdue scoreless until the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings when Purdue scored three more runs leaving the final score 5-2.
- Down 6-0 in the top of the fourth, Leela Langston walked before advancing to third on a Hailey Seymour double. Up to bat, Sally Trent grounded out but not before Langston could cross home plate. Tech tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the inning.
- Avoiding the run rule in the top of the fifth, Charleston added four runs to extend the game another half inning. Starting when Savannah Scott singled in a pair of runs before Lily Thorpe hit a sacrifice fly and Scott crossed home plate. Cadence Alberty then singled and Samatha Horn scored the Cougars' final run with a score of 5-11 at the end of the top of the fifth.
- Georgia Tech scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to conclude the game.
- Mackenzie Mathis pitched the entire first game for her third complete game of the season. She had four strikeouts against Purdue.
- Sally Trent and Audri Bates each had two hits against Purdue while Hailey Seymour had two against the Yellow Jackets.
- Ryley Kutter and Campbell Schaen each pitched against Georgia Tech and Schaen had one strikeout.
- The Cougars play in the final day of the I-75 Tournament Saturday, February 21 against Purdue and Yale. The first game of the day against Yale is set for 11 a.m. with the second against Purdue immediately following at 1:30 p.m.
