Charleston Holds Off Panthers for 11-10 Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston held off Georgia State Saturday afternoon with an 11-10 win at Patriots Point.

With the win, Charleston moves to 8-10 on the season and 8-5 at home.

Freshman Bronwyn Conroy went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI in the win while Julia Sitterding also crossed the plate three times Saturday.

CRITICAL POINTS

Jules Raymond started in the circle for the Cougars holding the Panthers scoreless through the first two innings while Conroy and Austy Miller scored in the first inning to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Charleston's offense continued to pounce with a four-spot in the second.
Sitterding singled up the middle to plate Abby Driscoll for the third run of the day before Savannah Scott scored on a fielding error by the Panthers.
Sitterding later slid home for CofC's fifth run of the afternoon on a Georgia State wild pitch. Cadence Alberty capped off the frame singling in Conroy for an early 6-0 advantage.
Georgia State responded with three runs of its own in the top of the third before Conroy made it a 7-3 ballgame with her second knock of the afternoon.
In the bottom of the fifth, Conroy hit a two-run triple, increasing Charleston's lead to 10-4.
Georgia State looked to mount a comeback scoring five in the sixth and another run in the seventh to make it an 11-10 game.
Raymond, who re-entered the contest, held off the Panthers to secure the victory and even the series.

OF NOTE

Erin McDaid earned her first career strikeout in the two innings she pitched Saturday.
Raymond started and ended the game, pitching four innings total and earning her third win.
Conroy and Sitterding had a game high three runs each. Conroy had 3 RBI and one stolen base while Sitterding had one hit and one stolen base. After Saturday's game, Conroy has a .452 batting average.
Conroy tallied her ninth multi-hit contest of the season.

UP NEXT

Charleston hosts Georgia State for the final game of the weekend series Sunday, March 1 with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
Sunday's game will feature the first of four Signature Sundays where players will be available for post-game autographs.
