MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Cougars had a seven-run bottom of the sixth for a 9-6 win over Coastal Carolina at Patriots Point Tuesday evening.

Charleston moves to 21-22 on the season with 18 wins at home.

Austy Miller drove in four of Charleston's nine runs on the evening with a double and a triple. Miller also scored one run.

CRITICAL POINTS

To begin the game, three Cougars reached base in the bottom of the first after a scoreless top of the inning by the Chanticleers. Charleston would not connect but would tally one hit.
Coastal scored one run in the top of the second and Ryley Kutter had her first strikeout of the day for the third out. The Chanticleers would add three more in the top of the third for a 4-0 lead.
Kendall Thackston entered the circle for Charleston in the top of the fifth inning and immediately threw three strikes for the first out.
In the bottom of the fifth at the top of the batting order for the Cougars, Bronwyn Conroy walked before stealing second. Following a sacrifice bunt from Julia Sitterding, Leela Langston singled and Conroy earned the Cougars' first run of the night. Then, with Audri Bates on first by a fielding error, Miller tripled to right field sending Bates home for a 5-2 score.
Thackston held Coastal scoreless with just one hit in the top of the sixth.
The Cougars started a seven-run streak in the bottom of the sixth beginning with a two RBI single from Sitterding sending Hailey Seymour and Samantha Horn home. The tying run came from a bunt by Langston to send Conroy home from third. To take a three-run lead, Miller hit a three RBI triple and then Savannah Scott doubled for Miller to score.
Coastal Carolina would score one home run in the top of the seventh before Thackston would strikeout two to end the game 9-6.

OF NOTE

Charleston had a season high 14 hits against Coastal at Patriots Tuesday evening.
Three Cougars hit doubles in the game.
Kutter and Thackston combined for five strikeouts.

UP NEXT

Charleston travels to Hampton for a three-game conference series beginning Friday, April 17 at 3 p.m.
The Cougars are next at Patriots April 22 to host a doubleheader against Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
