Mount Pleasant, S.C. – Linda Rush homered and drove in four runs to lead Drexel to a 6-4 win over the College of Charleston in the finale of a Colonial Athletic Association series at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (22-14, 3-3 CAA) saw their four-game winning streak snapped and lost to the Dragons for the first time in nine contests. Drexel is 10-11-1 overall and 3-3 in the CAA.

Charleston had 12 hits including two each by Jordin Jones, Taylor Belfiore, Dexlie Inman, Lauren Lozano and Yari Felix but left 10 runners on base. Taylor DuPree had a single in the fifth for her 250th career hit, moving her into a tie with Amanda Cone for the top spot in school history.

Lozano tied it at 1-1 with an RBI single in the second before the Dragons took the lead for good in their half of the third on a three-run homer by Rush, her sixth of the season. Drexel added a run in the fourth for a 5-1 cushion before the Cougars made a comeback attempt the following inning.

Jones doubled into the right field corner to drive in the first run of the inning, and Sara Garcia made it 5-3 with an RBI ground out to second. The Cougars left two runners on base in the fifth as well as the next two innings, with only a sacrifice fly by Kelly Sinclair in the sixth producing a run.

Charleston had one last chance in the seventh when singles by Belfiore and Inman had two on with two out, but Lozano grounded out to end the game.

The Cougars play at Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 4 before heading to Hofstra next weekend to resume CAA play.
