Cougars Drop Second to Elon

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings before Elon scored the first run in the third frame off an RBI single.
The Cougars quickly responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Savannah Lockhart led off with an RBI double and Malaka Belser singled to help set up Shealyn Starks' game-tying RBI single. Mia Dittoe followed up with a base-clearing double for a 4-1 lead.
The Phoenix led off the fourth frame with a home run to cut their deficit to two before delivering four more runs in the fifth inning. Elon then capitalized with eight runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.
Belser hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to lead the team with three hits and two RBI on the day.
The Cougars and Phoenix will play the series finale Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
