CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston renews its oldest rivalry on Tuesday when the Cougars visit Charleston Southern for a 6 p.m. contest.
The Cougars hold a 58-37 lead in the series with the 95 contests marking the most against any opponent. Since the Charleston softball program began in 1993, the teams have played every season except for 2002 and the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign.
The Cougars come into the game on the heels of their third CAA sweep of the season against Towson and winners of 16 of their last 24 overall. With a record of 21-22, Charleston can reach the .500 mark this late in a season for the first time since finishing 31-27 in 2018.
The three wins over the Tigers kept the Cougars in the thick of a tightly-bunched pack in the CAA standings. Charleston is 12-6 in the conference, three games behind Campbell, two shy of Delaware and Elon and one back of Stony Brook.
The Cougars are two games ahead of Hofstra and head to Long Island to face the Pride this weekend before hosting Campbell on April 25-27.
CSU is 16-24 and 5-7 in the Big South. The Bucs have won five of the last six against the Cougars after having lost 16 of the previous 17 meetings.
