
Cougars Defeat Monmouth in Eight Innings for First Conference Sweep

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Cougars defeated Monmouth 3-2 in extra innings to complete the series sweep after Cadence Alberty hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.
Charleston is now 11-13 overall and 3-0 in the CAA after hosting Monmouth to open conference play.
Alberty had one run and two hits for the Cougars' fifth walk-off win of the season.

- Jules Raymond started in the circle holding Monmouth scoreless through two innings.
- The Hawks added one in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the fourth, Campbell Schaen took the circle for the Cougars and struck out one Hawk in her opening frame.
- Mackenzie Mathis entered the game for Charleston in the top of the sixth while Monmouth added one more run to the board.
- Halle Cannon tripled in the bottom of the seventh for 1 RBI to send Alberty home from first for the Cougars' first run of the day. With 2 outs on a 0-1 count, Sierra Paradis singled and Cannon ran home to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
- Mathis struck out one Hawk in the top of the eighth to end the inning facing only three batters.
- Charleston had three hits in the bottom of the eighth including one from Langston to advance her to first on a fielder's choice. Hailey Seymour singled and Langston advanced to third on the hit. Alberty sent Langston home for the 3-2 victory and a series sweep.

- Wednesday, Charleston will play USC Upstate in a doubleheader at Patriots Point with the first game starting at 3 p.m. and the second at 5 p.m.
